Create and edit set or lesson in MemoryLab

Updated on

In MemoryLab, there are two ways to create a lesson: you can create a set (a set of several lessons belonging to a course) or you can create a single lesson.

Remember that you cannot add individual lessons to a set afterwards; if you have a set of lessons, create the set first and place the lessons in it.

1. Creating a set

  1. On the home page, you can start creating a set in two ways. There are two buttons: ‘create lesson or set’

or the ‘+’ at the bottom right of the page.

  1. A pop-up window gives you the option to create a single lesson or a set of lessons.
  1. For a set of lessons, select ‘Create set of lessons’. This will take you to the ‘Lesson Editor’ screen.
  1. Choose the language of the set.
  1. Use the formal course title including a year designation (e.g. Cognitive psychology 22/23).
  1. Students can also achieve a number of Mastery Credits. MemoryLab measures student progress by awarding mastery credits. A student earns a credit when they master all lesson components in a day, based on accuracy and reaction time. Obtaining a credit takes about 30 minutes. Learners can earn one credit per lesson per day.
  1. Click ‘Save set’ to save your set.

‘Practice Difficult’ allows students to practise the 20 most difficult items from different lessons in the tutorial group. They can
earn mastery credits. However, we do not recommend this option if you have lessons of different types (multiple-choice and typing, picture prompts and text prompts, etc. and typing, picture prompts and text prompts, etc.).

2. Creating a single lesson

  1. To create a single lesson, select ‘Create lesson’. Then enter title and description (optional) and select the language of the lesson under ‘category’.
  1. You will then enter the ‘Lesson Editor’ and can add the questions via ‘Add fact’.

Students can only find your set or lesson if they have set the language of their library page to the language you have chosen for the set/lesson. They can find your set or lesson by changing the language of their library, refreshing the page and searching for the set.

3. Creating a lesson within a set

  1. To create a lesson within a set, first create a set and then click ‘Add lesson’.
  1. Enter a title and description for your lesson.
  1. Choose the language of the lesson. Remember that students can only find your lesson if they have set the language of their library page to the language you have chosen for the lesson.
  1. Create the lesson you need by selecting the options in the ‘Lesson Editor’. Under ‘Answering method’ you can also choose the type of question. You can read more about creating type or multiple-choice questions here

You can read more about the available functions of the ‘Lesson Editor’ in the table below.

4. Making changes

You can make changes to sets or lessons in two ways:

  1. Go to the home screen, click on the cog icon and choose ‘Edit’ from the drop-down menu.
  1. You are in the set or lesson and click on the gear icon and then choose ‘Edit’ from the drop-down menu.
