Add a weblecture
The Content menu allows you to structure your course and add course material like weblectures. You can add weblectures to a (sub)module and every weblecture will form a new topic within said (sub)module. There are two ways to do this:
- Add Weblectures (only for recordings you own)
- External Learning Tools (if you have received a link in an email)
Option 1: Add Weblectures
In Brightspace, you will only see the recordings that you own. You are considered the owner if you are linked to the recording as a lecturer in TurnTime. These lecturers will also receive an email after the session with a link to the recording. You can find your own recordings directly in Brightspace; you do not need the link from the email to do this.
Would you like someone else to add the recording to the course? If so, please forward the link from the email so that this person can add the recording using option 2 below.
- Go to Content in the navbar of your course.
- Go to the (sub)module to which you want to add a web lecture.
- Click on Existing Activities.
- Click on Add Web Lecture.
Click on Selecteer een bestaand medium to add a single recording. Click on the weblecture you wish to add. The weblecture will appear immediately below the module.
(The Selecteer een bestaand kanaal option does not apply. As a lecturer, you do not have channels, only individual recordings.)
When you add a web lecture to your course, it is published straight away. This means the weblecture is immediately visible to students. You can choose to hide the weblecture after posting it (for example, if you want to edit it first. Read here to find out how to edit a recording.)
Would you like to make the web lectures for a course available only to a specific group of students? If so, set release conditions for the module containing the web lectures. It is not possible to set group restrictions on individual web lectures.
Option 2: External Learning Tools
Navigate to Content in your course’s navigation bar.
- Go to the (sub)module to which you want to add a web lecture.
- Click on Existing Activities.
- Click on External Learning Tools. A new window will open.
- Scroll down and click on Create New LTI Link.
- Enter the title of the web lecture.
- Paste the link you were given for your web lecture.
- Click on Create and Insert.
Hide a weblecture
Would you like to read more about how to edit a topic’s properties? If so, read the article How do I edit a topic’s properties or move a topic?
To view and edit a weblecture, you must first place it in a module in Brightspace. If you do not want students to immediately be able to see the weblecture, you can either:
- place the web lecture in your Sandbox first as a preview and have an option to edit the weblecture. Then add the edited version to your course;
- or temporarily hide the weblecture (Hidden):
- Navigate to Content in the navbar of your course.
- Click on the (sub)module that contains the weblecture.
- Click on the weblecture.
- Click on the Visibility toggle, the weblecture is now hidden.
